Our mission is to educate the general public by preserving and maintaining railroad history in the City of Folsom, County of El Dorado, County of Sacramento and related connections.
The original railroad visionary
Theodore Dehone Judah. Born March 4th 1826, died November 2nd 1863.
A civil engineer, surveyor, railroader and lobbyist, in 1854 Judah was engaged by Charles Wilson, President of the Sacramento Valley Railroad to survey the route and build the first railroad west of the Mississippi from Sacramento to Folsom.
A dedicated and principled man, Judahs enthusiasm for the SVRR and the idea of a transcontinental railroad through the Sierras earned him the nickname ‘Crazy Judah.’
His legacy lives on!
